How to set VAT, service, and delivery fees
Fees are the part of a group order that causes arguments: someone pays the delivery, someone forgets the service charge, and the numbers stop matching. Configuring them once on the menu means every round applies them the same way and every share is calculated the same way.
Where fees live
VAT, service charge, and delivery are set on the menu, not on each order. Open the menu, edit it, and set the three values under pricing. Every round started from that menu inherits them.
That placement is deliberate. Fees belong to the restaurant, not to the occasion, so setting them once is both less work and less error-prone than re-entering them on the night.
VAT and service charge
VAT and service are percentages applied to the value of what each person ordered. Someone who orders twice as much pays twice as much of both, which is what people expect and rarely need to discuss.
Enter the rate the restaurant actually charges rather than a rounded figure. The totals are only useful if they match the receipt you will be handed, and a percentage point of drift on a large order is enough to leave the organizer out of pocket.
A rate of zero is valid. If the prices you entered already include VAT, leave it at zero rather than adding it twice — the app never assumes a rate on your behalf.
Splitting delivery
Delivery is a flat amount rather than a percentage, so it has to be divided somehow. You choose between two policies: split it equally between everyone taking part, or in proportion to what each person ordered.
Equal is simpler and suits a group where orders are roughly the same size. Proportional is fairer when one person orders for a whole family and another orders a coffee — the person who caused most of the order carries most of the delivery.
Reading a share
Each person’s total is their items, plus their share of VAT and service, plus their share of delivery under whichever policy the menu uses. The breakdown is shown, not just the final number, so anyone who wants to check can.
Once a round is frozen the rates are locked with it. Changing a fee on the menu afterwards affects future rounds only, so a settled receipt never moves after the fact.
Fees and charges
- The restaurant added a charge I did not expect. Can I fix a closed round?
- Reopen the round if it has not been completed, adjust, and freeze it again. A completed round stays as it was so that past receipts remain accurate; for those, settle the difference outside the app.
- Which delivery split should I choose?
- Equal when orders are similar in size and the group values simplicity. Proportional when one or two people account for most of the order, which is when equal starts to feel unfair.
- Do fees apply to a private order with just me?
- Yes. The same pricing policy applies, so a single-person order from a shared menu still totals what you will actually pay.
